Key points on Consumption and Taste by Ben taylor in the book Food and Cultural studies.

1) The entire text revolves around the concept of food consumption and taste. It shows how our food habits are shaped according to the class, culture, identity and society.  2) The class and identity of people in our society are judged by two things 'what they buy' and 'how they eat'. 3) Food is seen more than just a scientific element relating to calories and nutrition. It is used to classify people within themselves. 4) The food consumed by 'The Poor' is seen as unhealthy and less rich in nutrition. 1. Remembrance of things past by Marcel Proust is a french novelist and literary critic who lived from July 10, 1871 till Nov 18, 1922.   2. The essay opens up with the Celtic idea that souls of the dead are trapped in objects, plants and animals. They are released outside when humans come in contact with the right objects.  3. Our memory of the past resides deep behind our conscious thoughts. It only comes outside during accidental events not by deliberate efforts.  4. Sensations play a key role in awakening these memories. When people make a suitable contact with these materials objects, sensations arises.  5. The narrator, tries to remember his own memory in a place called Combray but fails in it.  6. One evening, he returns home and is offered Madeleine cakes and a cup of tea by his mother.
